90 Minutes Before Sunset: The Green Flash Window The “real magic” begins now. The light softens, the colors start to deepen, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot the legendary green flash as the last sliver of the sun disappears. Your camera is optional, but your sense of wonder is mandatory.

Here’s your backward timeline to make it happen:
Order food: ~5:45 PM You’re seated, you’ve ordered drinks, and the golden hour is upon you. This is the time to commit to your food order. Don’t be “that guy” still debating between the ahi poke nachos and the huli huli chicken when the sun is putting on its grand finale.
Drinks & Seating: ~5:30 PM You’ve made it! This is your reservation time. You’re at the table, taking in the view, and a server is bringing you a well-deserved Mai Tai. Savor this moment. You earned it.

Arrive at restaurant: ~5:20 PM You’ve successfully completed the parking safari. Arrive 10 minutes before your reservation. The host will check you in, and you’ll be on your way to that coveted oceanfront table.

Parking Time: ~5:00 PM This is the true test of your patience. Traffic in Waikiki is an ancient Hawaiian art form. Whether you choose valet or navigate the parking garage yourself, give yourself a solid 20-30 minutes for this mission. Do not, under any circumstances, try to find “quick” street parking.
Leave Location: ~4:30 PM This is highly dependent on where you’re staying. If you’re a short walk away, you’re a lucky soul. If you’re driving from another part of the island, leave with plenty of time. Traffic is like a stubborn lava flow—it moves when it wants to.
Wake up and get ready: ~3:30 PM The first step in your journey to dinner. Put on your aloha shirt, your linen dress, and maybe some sandals. This isn’t a rush. This is a leisurely preparation for a beautiful experience.
